OUR DIAMOND MUSLIM WOMAN CRUSH

Our Diamond Muslim Woman Crush is Zaliatu Lami Muntari, this beautiful intelligent married and a mother of two have been working as Cabin Crew  with Emirates Airlines for 10 years. Masha Allah!

If you have  had the privilege to be selected for an interview with Emirates you will understand its a big deal to get the chance to work with them. I attempted working with the Emirates and applied to go through the process but got discouraged at a point because I was made to believe cabin crews, especially women stand a low chance of marrying and giving birth because of the nature of their job constantly travelling and in the air but today Zulaiha’s story made me believe otherwise. She’s been working with Emirates Airlines from 2008, travelling all over the world but managed to build a beautiful home with 2 kids.

I may have lost out on a dream as a result of believing the rumours and narratives associated to being a flight attendant (please pardon my young self and naivety) but I am glad through the story of the likes of Zulaiha I know better.

Lami’s work and family balance has changed my perception about her work. She attributes  her successful work life balance to her family’s support which encourages her to do more and her resolve to work out her challenges and persevere. “Life is how you make it” she tells me, further adding that “Challenges make us who we are and what we make out of them make us unique.”

Aside working as a flight attendant for a decade, catering to her two kids and co-managing the home with her supportive husband, Lami managed to turn her love for cooking into a side gig. During her off days she takes orders to cook for people earning her some extra money aside her main work. In future she intends to turn this into a full fledged business so people can taste her finger licking food in the comfort of the homes.

She is also working to create a homemade cosmetics line.

Whilst we celebrate Lami’s career achievements and near to perfect balanced work and family balance and most importantly her commitment to her deen. Let’s get into how she got here.

Born  in Tema, She had her Basic education at Tema community 8 No. 1 Junior High and Senior High at Tema MEDASS. She later on studied ticketing and reservation at Career development institute (CDI) in Labone and continued to IATA air ticketing and reservation and then to the consultant level.

She then worked with the Premier travel and tour company in Dzorwulu as a ticket and reservations personnel. When Royal air Marco started operations in Ghana, she got the opportunity to work as a ticketing and reservation officer.

As an active Muslim, Lami emphasises that religion doesn’t get in the way of her work. Having a good work and life balance she admits also includes keeping to prayer times and other religious obligations.

On advice to young female Moslems, Zulaiha advised that young Moslem girls to be passionate and FOCUSED on their goals and shouldn’t allow negative happenings in their environment to affect them. She admits there will be challenges and some discouraging moments, but it may only be temporal. She also encouraged young Muslim  women to reach out and encourage each other.

Hope her story inspires you and encourages you to strive to be better.  Lami prioritised education, professional training and dedication to her goals. Her life has been a work in progress and not limited by get rich quick schemes.

Life is a journey. Let the struggles of life, good or bad, make you determined and focused. keep your eyes on the prize. Sooner or later, you will reach the stage you desire. Don’t wait on anyone to make you complete. Be a hardworking woman with a dignified story that will inspire others to be game changers.

We are very proud of Zulaiha Lami Muntari our Diamond Muslim Woman Crush for this week. She earns our 5 diamonds πŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’Ž for her passion, dedication, professional life balance and her commitment to her deen. Here is to more of Lamis.
