WHO IS A MOTHER?

I  still struggle to find the right words to describe a mother, all I can say is a mother is a mother and not just an empty  title holder as a mother. Does this even make sense? Ermmmm

A mother is an Earth Angel, selfless super - sweet loving being, creator of a harmonious home and conducive environment for everyone, protector and selfless person who believes in firm discipline hence makes sure every child grows upright.

“It is your mother's right towards you that you should remember that she carried you in her womb for several months and nourished you with the sap of her life. She employed all her essence to keep and protect you. She did not care if she herself went hungry, while you were fed to satiety; or to go thirsty herself, while your thirst was quenched; or to have no clothes, while you were well-covered; or to stay in the hot sun, while you were sheltered; She ignored her sweet sleep and tolerated the pain of sleeplessness for your sake. She protected you against the heat of summer and cold of winter. She bore all that pain in order to have you, and you may have her. You should know that you are unable to thank your mother appropriately unless God helps you and grants you the favour and ability to repay her."4

“The rights which have been determined in Islam for a mother, and some examples of which have already been mentioned, are due to the pains she has borne in developing the life and body of her offspring, so that after tolerating such back-breaking pains, she may offer a well-bred human being to the society.
Naturally, only such a mother, who performs her motherly duties perfectly, and brings up a useful and competent individual with her overall efforts, can enjoy these rights.”

A mother’s attributes honour her the privilege of sitting on the highest seat of Allah meaning the Creator of the universe Himself holds her in high esteem. So imagine how much is it expected of us to serve them here on earth so our days will be prolonged?

“And We have enjoined man in respect of his parents-- his mother bears him with faintings upon faintings and his weaning takes two years-- saying: Be grateful to Me and to both your parents; to Me is the eventual coming. And if they contend with you that you should associate with Me what you have no knowledge of, do not obey them, and keep company with them in this world kindly…”(The Quran, 31:14-15)
"And your Lord has commanded that you shall not serve any but Him and goodness to your parents."(The Quran, 17:23)
"Heaven lies beneath the feet of mothers". (Prophet of Islam)

Whether  biological or not, a mother demonstrates some phenomenal characteristics which ought to be appreciated, respected  and celebrated in special ways be it little or much.

A mother’s affection goes beyond her children and the confines of her home and neighbourhood. She shows love, care and concern to everyone including total strangers. Mothers automatically warm up to everyone. I mean a good mother does this without seeking for validation from anyone.

Their love is timeless. From the moment it is confirmed a woman has  taken a seed (pregnant), naturally she totally falls in love with the news and this love transcends to the foetus during her pregnancy for 9 and above month sometimes to the very first day she welcomes the baby after delivery. Just priceless!

A feeling that’s magically infectious making everyone around to also fall in love with the new born. This kind of love grows  more stronger by the day until death shows up but even in death a mother’s love for her child is pure.

Mothers are protective because the safety and well-being of their children means a lot to them. A mother is the one suffers more if her child falls sick or get injured and so it’s their duty to ensure the children stay off people and environments that are harmful. Try visiting any children’s ward and you will get the clear picture of why most mothers are over protective of their children. A mother is the one person who can stay up all night taking care of her child. A mother can deprive herself sleep just to make sure her child is safe and sound.

Their type of protection goes on until a child is old enough but even that doesn’t stop them from protecting us in our matrimonial homes. You can never understand their ways so don’t judge them. It’s in their DNA to guide and guard their children against life decisions no matter how old or the position they attain in life.

Mothers are capable of multi-tasking with or without any support. A mother can be washing, cooking, cleaning and taking care of a child/ children at the same time. They are super beings and strong willed. Nothing is too much for a mother, even if they can’t, they will die trying. Mothers are strong willed, passionate about the needs of their children and so anything to make it right, they will do it.

A mother is her child/ children’s biggest fan that’s why they encourage their wards to be the first people they run to if they have any issues in life. A mother understands her children’s soul, and a mother’s intuition is always right.
Mothers are the truest best friends to their children. No good mother will wash her child’s dirty lineage  outside or feed them to the wolves.

No matter how much hope you have lost, a mother will hold your hands and urge you on to soldier on. A mother speaks words of wisdom and inspiration into her child’s soul to awaken their spirit to wake up each day and do more.

May Allah give every women the fruit of the womb. May He make us love, appreciate, spend time  and celebrate our mothers not only on Mothers’ day at all time because they make the world and the a people in it beautiful including you and I.
