RANT OF A WORRIED ZONGO MAN

There is a lot to talk about when it comes to our zongo regarding the inhuman things that our young innocent females have to go through in the hands of some irresponsible Muslim men, worst of it is the Makaranta mallams who hide behind the religion and title to cause harm to these girls. 

Well to start with : 

1. MAKARANTA: 

It has always been an open secret in some of our communities that the Arabic schools most of these ladies attended isn’t what it’s supposed to be after all. Most of the young girls over the years have being sexually molested by the very people they refer to as their Mallams meaning “Arabic school teachers”. 

Believe it or not, most of our Arabic schools are breeding grounds for sexual molestation . Most of the mallams hide behind their titles to  take advantage of these innocent girls who come to learn garner some knowledge.

There is a Mallam in Ashiaman who have impregnated about six girls already. Sad to say, after the cases are reported to the authorities, it still end up being  foolish case because of the way parents of the victims and the elders in the society handle it. All you hear, after victims cry so many times for justice is “ let’s take home and solve it.” Unbelievable 

My wife  grew up in Nima was almost victim of sexual molestation , though she was able to survive the wicked intent of her Mallam  but had quit attending makaranta to save herself from any future embarrassment. 

I personally know one Mallam who takes delight in marrying under aged girls. Girls below 18. What he does is that, after he gets two kids or more kids from them, then he finds an a mysterious way of divorcing them. 

Most of these young innocent girls can’t find their rights because their own parent cover up because of the fear of being stigmatised. 

These young girls loose their self confidence and grow up resenting men because of their past. 

2. MARRIAGE: Most of our zongo men are now hiding behind  unfulfilled and undesired marriages to exhibit very stern , profound and widespread wickedness towards our ladies in the zongo communities . 
   

Because these marriages are mostly hook ups the men usually take advantage of the young innocent ladies who haven’t committed any crime than to wish to be married too. After cunningly settling down with the young ladies, these irresponsible men clearly deviate from what Islam teaches about marriage. Most ladies these days out of desperation of wanting marriage, end up baby making for these selfish men with no adequate care, compassion , love and harmony in their marital homes. 

And because of the fear of societal condemnation the ladies can’t express their feelings and their predicament to anyone so they stay in these abusive marriages all in the name of being married too.

3. BORGER MARRIAGE: Most of these so called broke Borgars come looking all rich yet after awhile when their  fake-ness  wears off, they  turn to drain our young  hard working ladies off their hard earned saved monies  in the name of seeking for marriage out of desperation. 

And because of the zongo pressures to get married, most of these ladies become victims of sexual molestation , charms, frauds, deprivations and loneliness with these  good for nothing borgas who come down to Ghana and do nothing but use and dump them. 

In most cases, the man will marry but leave their wives in their  family house at the mercy of some inconsiderate and egoistic in-laws. Where their remittances  and other essential deliveries pass through the hands of the in laws. These  irresponsible way of treating them  leave them with no privacy, peace of mind and respect at all.

Also, because of the amount of money  the ladies family tend to spend during the unislamic part of our  marriages ceremonies, the men tend to  take advantage of their wives  because of the fact that,  the woman were  desperate to get married.

And you know in our zongo communities most of the marriages are sponsored by the ladies family. Sadly, you see women  prepare for these marriages as if their last breath  depend on it. 

Almost all the preparations relating to the marriage ceremonies that could have even be done in moderation yet not in most cases are done by the ladies family so it contributes to the fact that after the marriage, a lot of these men act reluctant in keeping the home, taking care of their wives needs etc. after all because they didn’t contribute they stand to  lose nothing if the marriage works or not. 

These and more are some of the terrible cases young girls face in our zongo communities but because there is no voice for the voiceless victims, it’s still going on.
